The Family Center for Children and Youth

Familial transitions, high conflict and uncertainty regarding the future are sources of stress and anxiety for any family. Children are often particularly affected by these situations due to their age and limited ability to understand how relationships evolve and change over time. Family changes are rarely easy, but as a parent, you do have the power to make the process and its effects less painful for your children.

Jewish Family Services (JFS) believes that divorce, separation and other conflictual family situations do not have to be dominated by animosity and anger. Despite the intense emotions these changes can produce, it can be a time when those involved put differences aside to minimize the negative consequences of their decisions on other members of the family.

Helping your child(ren) cope with adjustments to their family life includes providing stability, support and attending to your child(ren)’s physical and emotional needs along with your own. To accomplish this, you’ll likely need your own support, education and guidance to develop the skills needed to communicate as peacefully as possible with the other parent. It will not be an effortless process, but your children can move forward knowing you love them unconditionally and will do what you can to avoid putting them in the middle.

Our goal

Our goal is to help support families through these difficult periods of dramatic change and assist them in minimizing the negative impact that changing familial circumstances has the potential to cause.

We offer a variety of programs designed to help families through these transitions. For more information on any of these services, please call 414-225-1333.
