Milwaukee, WI - Judith Strauss, L.P.C., Psychotherapist at Jewish Family Services (JFS), was awarded a Sterling Award by Interfaith Older Adult Programs at their award program on Tuesday, August 27th. The Sterling Awards recognizes workers 60 years of age and older who have significantly impacted their employer, communityat- large and their peers.

Strauss received the Spirit of Work Award, which acknowledges a part or full-time worker who embraces and engages peers and staff in the course of their work. Other criteria for the recipient of the award included: giving without being asked, having passion for all they do, and striving to create a work environment that is enjoyable, stimulating and productive.

An employee of JFS for over 30 years, Strauss has served as Vice-President of Program Services, Vice-President of Counseling & Clinical Services, Director of Exceptional Needs, and she twice was named the agency’s Acting Executive Director. In addition, she assisted Russian Immigrant families as a resettlement counselor, worked with individuals with developmental disabilities and chronic mental illness in the Exeptional Needs programs, and provided counseling support as a family therapist to children, adults and couples in the JFS outpatient mental health clinic. For her exemplary service, JFS previously awarded her with the prestigious Ralph Sherman Staff Award.

Outside JFS, Strauss has served as a board member and Chair of Mental Health America of Wisconsin and is currently a commissioner on the Milwaukee County Department on Aging’s Commission on Aging. Her passion for client services was also recognized by the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, who honored her with their Mel Zaret Award for Outstanding Jewish Professional.
